Dear Parishioners:

The second Sunday of May is a day in which we traditionally honor and give thanks for the Moms in our lives. While some of the ways we may have traditionally done this will have to be altered this year, giving thanks remains something we undoubtedly wish to do.

It is with this in mind that I invite the Moms of our Parish and their family to come to St. Agnes for a special Mother’s Day Blessing. This will be done in front of the Cathedral where a car can drive down Quealy Place and stop in front of the entrance to the Cathedral. The occupants of the car (and a second car if it is a larger family) can remain or get out and stand by the car. There will be a special Mother’s Day Prayer and Blessing for the mom(s) who is there followed by a blessing with the relic of St. Agnes of everyone who is gathered there.

We will also have a basket into which I invite you to drop the name(s) of those women whom you would like remembered at the Mother’s Day Novena of nine Masses that will be prayed in the days following Mother’s Day. The times the blessing will take place are:

Sunday, May 10

9:30 am to 10:30 am
12:30 pm to 2:00 pm

Hopefully the time is convenient and I will see you there.

I also bring to your attention two other opportunities that you are invited to participate in in the coming week:

1.     Wednesday, May 13th is the Memorial of Our Lady of Fatima, a day in which we honor our Blessed Mother as we recall her appearance in 1918 to three Portuguese children who were asked to pray the rosary for peace. A Holy Hour during which the rosary will be prayed will be live-streamed from St. Agnes at 8:00 PM. Information on accessing this will be available on our parish website.

2.     On Saturday, May 16th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm the Saint Agnes’ St. Vincent DePaul and Parish Outreach Program will be collecting food donations as well as providing financial assistance and food to those in need. Those who are able to donate food can come and drop the food off and those needing assistance are asked to bring a copy of a bill that you are unable to pay due to the pandemic.   Priority will be given to neighbors that are not receiving government assistance.  If you know of someone who may need assistance, please let them know.

In closing, please be assured of my prayers for you and your loved ones,
Rev. Msgr. William E. Koenig
